Hi, my name is Neema Cherian. I, along with my team, run Elfwood Children’s Library and Activity Centre. I started the series ‘Education@Home’ to document our personal experiences as a family with homeschooling.
My husband and I have been homeschooling our children for more than 12 years now. We started this series because many parents have to now grapple with the challenge of schooling kids at home.
Irrespective of whether your kids attend school online from home or you homeschool them yourself, there are many common challenges. Cramming their time with academics will make them all the more disinterested with studies and make them dull and irritable. But if their time can be filled with beautiful literature, music, art or baking and plenty of time to explore their own interests, you will see a holistic development in your child.
We hope that our blog will give you ideas on this. Music is a very important part of our lives as a family. It brings harmony into our lives. It also helps with fine motor skills, listening skills and creativity among other things.
The piano, violin, trumpet, guitar and recorder are played in our home. Expect to see many music blogs ! We kicked off this series with a music video we made in the lockdown during the pandemic. You can watch it here:
We hold free webinars to discuss topics related to education/ learning at home. We address common questions that parents have. You could also submit questions/ topics that you would like to be discussed in these webinars. These webinars are typically held in the first Saturday of each month. If you are interested, please sign up here:
Elfwood also offers classes and workshops in Music, Theatre and Math among other things, that will help in this holistic development. Some of these are free as well. You can check them out over here:
